How to draw the tapered end

Hi
Looking for help please- how do I draw the attached picture? Specifically how to draw the tapered round end of the spintop?

one method could be this: Rail revolve

Rail Revolve_example.3dm (425.0 KB)

Rail Revolve_example___update.3dm (1.4 MB)

example to booleane:
from what I see in the photo, it’s not exactly a sphere. Perhaps if you use the cage tool to deform the sphere slightly toward the tip, the result would be closer to reality.

Rail Revolve_example___update con booleane.3dm (1.7 MB)

patch with history using a point as an additional parent object works nicely- can adjust point location to iterate on the specific shape.

you’ll have to play with span count and potentially do it untrimmed and then move the surface a bit and trim it manually to get it to join up into a closed poly surface

Looks like it could be made from an extruded square and a revolved parabola (curve command made with 3 points)
top.3dm (310.2 KB)

This is also an interesting solution

can also just lay it out explicitly- make 4, 4 sided surfaces that meet and match at the centers.

for sure this wooden spinner is done by a wood turner.
so the top is rotational. / a revolve.

EDIT:
@richard.aubin
voila:

my workflow:
_box
_line
_arc (snap to mid) tangent fromFirstPoint
_revolve
_BooleanSplit

and by the way - it s an nice detail that can be found in a lot of glas bottles as well.
for example this one:

For this exercise, I always start by telling my students it’s a bottle of schnapps. Sooner or later, they figure out it’s vinegar – in more ways than one!

Tom your approach was spot on. This piece was turned on a lathe so the “Revolve” command worked best. Thx for all the help
