How to drape a 2D surface with photo texture over a curved shape?

Hi Everyone,
I’m working with a photo of a dinosaur that I’ve imported onto flat surface as a texture and then cropped closely to the skeletal form. I’d like to make this shape 3-dimensional by draping the torso and legs portion of this edited surface over another curved surface. This will give me one side of the skeleton in 3D that I can then mirror to provide me with a complete “shell” that looks quite realistic.

My question for the group is: how do I achieve this while also preserving the cropped photo image as a texture? The shape itself is enough to achieve by projecting an outline onto a curved form and then cutting out the shape, but this provides only the shape with out the image.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Draping 2D photo on the curved surface is easy, but it will look realistic from one angle only. If you want 3D model, you have to make it by hand.

Use Decal properties to drape the photo on the surface and Decal Widget to relocate and resize the decal. You have to display Properties panel (F3 shortcut) and select the surface before you can use Decals. Show/Hide Decal Widget icon is in the upper right corner of the panel.

The best way to make the 3D model is making stick model first, then MultiPipe and other SubD commands. The stick model is made of intersected curves.
