How to do a Cabochon Edge?

I am trying to figure out how to do this kind of loft on different shapes. Does anyone have a suggestion that’s simple?

For example on a circle shape, a rectangle, triangle.

rail revolve may be worth taking a peek at.

So, you want a four/three-sided pyramidal form emerging from a circular, rectangular, or triangular base? Is that what you mean?

Yes!

Yes this is great!

Rail revolve with carefully constructed curves and history enabled is a beautiful thing.

Does anyone have any good tutorials on constructing curves on rhino?

watch this entire series.

also this will be helpful- it’s subd oriented but rule of three is based on good nurbs curve creation.

Thanks very helpful!

  1. Simplest method is fillet edge and select all edges of a solid.
  2. If machining is not an issue, shrinkwrap with offset.

I’m a jeweler and will add that almost every cabochon has a different edge profile and thickness and angle. Quad Remesh with SubD soft-creases are excellent for cabs and all their subtle nuances (which if you get it wrong makes them very much a pain to set in the mounting!).
