How to decrease rendering time?

Hello, I am trying to render a simple bookcase unit. I am new to this topic. I just bought a very powerful laptop and it seems like this render is killing my laptop. It gets insanely hot when rendering and appears to be extremely slow. I am not sure if it is the file, my laptop, or some other issue. Maybe this is standard when rendering? Some context…

I am using Rhino 7’s built in render

Laptop
Lenovo Thinkpad P15

  • Runs on a hybrid graphics configuration
GPU: Nvidia Quadro RTX 5000 Max Q - 16GB VRAM
    CPU: Intel Xeon W-10885M
    32GB RAM

Cycles: Set to GPU

I ran a render with the following settings…
DPI: 300
Pixel Size: 2881 x 1526

Time to reach 100 samples: 10 Minutes

  • My laptop was scorching hot. It was running the render on battery power only in “Better Battery” mode. I have tried higher performance modes and haven’t noticed any noticeable improvements.

See file attached. if anyone can test out this render on their laptop and gets quality results, meaning a render that doesn’t take 10 min and causes your laptop to reach extreme temps, please let me know. Again, I am ignorant to this subject so please let me know if there is any additional info that is needed.

Appreciate the help.

Heat issues on some laptops can be an issue. I find if I set power consumption to 97% on the cpu and video in Windows if possible can really help.

I use coretemp to monitor the temp. Anything over 100c is bad for longevity of the chip.

I would also recommend the denoisers, the really help. Rhino - Denoisers
