Hi Guys need help to unroll the dome surface as attached to create a template, tried using smash command but result seem not right, by the way I’m using Rhinoceros 4.0. Thanks in advance.
A surface with compound curvature like your dome or like a basketball, can not be unrolled to a simple flat pattern accurately. It can be approximated depending on how you slice it up.
Think of an orange cut into radial slices. The more slices you make, the narrower they get and the closer each slice gets to being flat, but will never quite get there.
The method of manufacture and the materials used should inform your decision as to how much you slice it up.
