How to accomplish this organic geometry with a grid of extruded rectangles?

How can I accomplish this kind of geometry with a grid of extruded rectangles? I got the script for the geometry from grasshopper forum (How to create nodes/bone structure like this? - Grasshopper)–fairly old conversation.

I used paneling tools to get rectangles, manually turn them into mesh, join them, and then input into the script you’ve provided but I don’t get a geometry anywhere close to what the people in that discussion have.
