I’ve been very upset at what I see daily on several computer news sites. Each day, creative people are threatened by AI encroachments.
AI as a technology is not evil, but that rampant theft of other people’s work–is evil. The fact that the (stolen) information is being wholesaled by AI proponents as a replacement for human employment–when the AI generated services they offer–are based from stolen property.
As a former-computer builder, ex-video game artist, graphic artist, professional documentation writer, who enjoys music and loves creating things with Rhino 3D, at no time since first using computer in the early 1980s, I have never seen what I witnessing. Sadly, I can foresee the days coming that by using AI-infected computer–I shall not expect to retain what I have created this far–and therefor may not be able to continue using and renewing commercial software on the Microsoft Windows platform.
I have taken steps, such as using Linux for much of my daily needs, and while I have currently invested in Windows-centric hardware, my path to retain my hard-worked intellectual property is not clear–even reading about the fleeting attempts seasoned Windows users–within locked threads by Microsoft.
Yes, if you steal a dollar from each person, you still steal.
I don’t think there is anything you can do. Microsoft is big, consumers are like dirt. Though I like MS much better than Apple which I think is much more evil and willing to steal from you. At least MS lets one use their old products on their newer os which is really nice. I’m still using old MS office suite and photoshop and they work great in win11.
One thing I noticed on Unreal marketplace is that they have a made with ai and can be used by ai agreement for people selling there products on the Fab market place. So if you don’t want your product used by ai you can check or uncheck that qualification. I think this was an equitable thing to include by epic how well it keeps ai from stealing is another question.
The music industry is already in very dire straights as many musicians barely get paid for their creations unless they litigate or have a big name and attorneys to back them up. It’s really hard to make money releasing music unless you’re lucky. Getting a 1/10 of a penny per 100 plays is hardly admirable. Now with ai vocal tracks, even back up and lead vocals no longer need a talent to make, you just sing in the mike and out comes your favorite pop star sound. Soon Rhino will become unnecessary too and Ai will fill that niche after it steals or emulates all it can.
We are moving towards a robotic future where the value of human existence is devalued by the intent of machines with corporate agendas and the false claims of what it might do for us. We are willing to sacrifice our privacy, and human rights just to get to the airport quicker or order at McDonalds using an app. If you live in the states you can see out right the erosion of human rights in favor of large companies and… people voted for this.
