How do I make an object into smaller cubes?

Hi

I am new to this, but I am trying to transform an object into many smaller cubes as you can see in my attached image. It would be nice if I could also changes the scale of the cubes and how they connect to each other. Could this be done in for example pufferfish or other plugin?

I don’t know if that what you want, but you need to play with points list and create a pattern to use it for small cubes

It looks great, but is there a possibility to make the cubes follow a certain grid. I know I am probably really bad at explaining this, but what I am searching for is that the dimensions of the cubes, the distance between them in each row and column can be adjusted. Not just randomly generate cubes in the space and letting them intersecting each other.
