How do I make this parametric canopy/feature?
One approach would be to take a sketch pad and draw that view. As you do so, make a list of the elements you draw. You will find you need various guide lines to control the proportions, then you will have major elements and minor details.
Use the list to govern the elements of your grasshopper model, building them in the order of your drawing.
That should help to divide a complex task into manageable chunks.
