How Do I? Comparing a point cloud to a design

Hi there, i new to Rhino and trying to figure out a workflow for laser scanning.
I have a point cloud in .e57 format and a design in .ifc format.
I would like to compare various sections through the files, then plot and annotate/dimension the differences.
PointCloudSection seems to work quite well, however only for the point cloud. i had then planned to Make2d.
Does it seem like i am on the right path or is there an easier/alternative way?

You can give it a try with ShrinkWrap,

You can use the ClippingTools to create and edit the section after you get the mesh object via Shrinkwrap,

Clipping allows you to slice through your design, turning off the display of parts of the model…

FYI, Shrinkwrap will interpolate some pointcloud points more than others when the mesh is generated. This could give you inaccurate results if some of the features you want to measure are in areas where the points are interpolated in the mesh. This is not a fault of Shrinkwrap, its a general limitation of generating surfaces or polylines from pointclouds.
