Hillside Indents

Hi,
I’m very new to Rhino - only been wokring here for 3+ months.
I’m working on a model for a playground that someone else started below:

I need to add some surface textures to the model - specifically indents or steps in the surface. So far they are only 2D but need to integrate them into the model for 3D.

Is there any advice? Specifically how can I drape the 2D constellation over the 3D Hill and smooth the edges?

Thanks

Hi -
Without a 3dm file, this is difficult to answer. Are the colorful dots in the top view representations of the steps that need to be added? If so, extruding those and finding the intersection with the terrain could be a place to start.

Yes colourful dots are plan view for small indentations and bumps in hillside. I found a way to project these onto the countoured hill - is there a way to intersect these shapes?

Thx

Hi -

It looks like the original profiles are no longer in that file, or at least not in the correct location…
I’d extrude the original profiles and move the extrusion so that the base is as far into the terrain as required. I would work in wireframe mode and intersect that extrusion with the hill to serve as a visual aid to where on the hill the intersection is situated but you can use a ghosted mode to see the base of the extrusion and the intersection with the terrain… When the extrusion is at the correct elevation, use that and the terrain to trim each other.
→ a single such step in this file: Hill Playground - a step.3dm (2.6 MB)

Thanks so much Wim!

Appreciate it - I will work through with this method!
