High poly mesh (ZBrush) to Rhino Nurbs for CNC fabrication

Hello everyone,

I’m looking to get some insight on the best workflow for importing high poly ZBrush models (in my case these are highly detailed figurines sitting at 2+ million polys for single pieces ie. arm, leg, etc) and convert them to nurbs so that I can create a mould and send it over to mastercam.

I’ve tried quad remesh in various programs → subD → nurbs with little success. The surfaces are always extremely heavy (rightfully so, I suppose!)

Is this the right approach? Is there a better way to solve this problem? Any plugins or other pieces of software that may help me from this nightmare?!

Thanks in advance!

Your best bet would be CAM that can work with meshes.

Thanks for the reply! That’s what I was thinking as well.. our team doesn’t like the sound of it but it may end up being the least expensive/fastest solution in the long run. Thank you!

Hypermill can handle huge meshes very well.

but it looks like Matercam 2022 also can do it:

100% agree with machine from the mesh.

I lived in this world for quite some time with a miniatures company I consulted with. https://www.para-bellum.com/

super detailed meshes, super detailed molds. we beat our heads against this for about 6 months until we just started machining from the meshes.
