Help with Drape

New to Drape. Unsure why I can’t achieve the contour noted in attached model. Is Drape the best approach for modeling the surface of a skin stretched over a balsa wing?

Drape is obsolete. Use shrinkwrap instead.

No drape is an extremely limited-utility gimmick, not a stretched fabric simulator. You would just model it using normal modeling tools. See the Level 1 and 2 training in the Help menu.

Specifically, what workflow?

Where is the extent of the skin? The base surface or the red curve around the spars?

Well in that case I would mostly just start by lofting between the spars and doing some point-editing to give the surfaces some droop. (They can be aligned with the red boundary curve using MatchSrf.) Then I blendsrf for the quickest way to getting a round appearance to the actual spar area, for a more detailed thicker appearance there would be more steps but this is what I did in 45 seconds.

The end is a special case but again I’d just do brute-force point editing.

shrinkwrap is definitely not what he needs here, even less than drape if one can say so.

@mristau it is not clear how exactly you imagine it to look like but something simple that picks up the wavy profile you could achieve by sweep2 for instance, for this pick 2 curves from your naca (or whatever these are) profiles explode these to only use the upper part, copy the wavy surface to the others side to use as a second sweep profile and sweep it over then trim with the boarder from above

No, it’s not, it has its uses.

I forgot to put imo.

Now, if drape wasn’t 2-dimensional, and instead became 3-dimensional, then might have more uses, and not be so obsolete imo :face_holding_back_tears:

And thank gosh for shrinkwrap, cause instead of patching countless numbers of drape executed surfaces and tryna stitch them together, I can just use shrinkwrap and actually get 3-dimensional conformations.

needs further work but…
