Having Problems Panelling a Geomatrical Pattern Around a Sphere, Any Tips?

Hi everyone,

Is there a panelling expert here? I’m in need of some help!

Currently I am working on a project for a client to model a lamp. The lamp is a sphere made out of the flower of life pattern (picture enclosed). I got some results already (see pictures, it’s 1/8 of the model by the way), but the client insists on the circles of the pattern staying the same seize. So I need to get rid of the centre point on my sphere because it’s deforming the circles.

What I did try so far was:

  • Make a 2D pattern and try Flow along Surface = deformed result
  • Make a 2D pattern and panel it around a sphere = result below, so problem with centre point
  • Cutting a sphere in pieces, Squish it, make a 2D pattern, Squish it back = deformed results
  • Cut out a piece of the middle ring to make a ‘puzzle piece’ = didn’t match the entire sphere diameter

I have basically tried anything I could think of, but as you can see no results so far. Does anyone have some ideas how to progress from here?
