Is it possible in automatic editing to always align hatching to the longest edge?
Possibly with a script - will have a look.
Every woodworker will love this trick!

Here is a first test to try. It should work on most stuff, I have found it fails on hatches that have their borders defined as NURBS curves in RhinoCommon - the one case I have here is if the hatch was made from a rounded rectangle. Looking into workarounds.
Edit - new and improved version below to re-download… fixes a couple of failure cases.
Let me know what works and what doesn’t.
