Hey Gang,
I wanted to understand how to modell the Column by Zaha Hadid, or the one by Patrik Schumacher.
Was supprised not to find any tutorials on this.
just looking at it, I would start by sectioning a tensile membrane, or an extruded ellipse
yeah i know. thats why i wrote
“the Column by Zaha Hadid, or the one by Patrik Schumacher”
make a cone then cut a section out, offset the surface blend surface the eges together. tell me if you need a visual tutorial, but that should do to get your imagination going
ok so i gave it a few more minutes, make a loft with 3 circles then cut a section out from the side like so
offset surface and blend the edges.
for a more accurate result you rotate the upper circle before lofting, but i leave that to you.
I’m not, why should they bother to explain informal gang members on how to copy and paste their work.
Learn how to model free-form shapes in Rhino. That’s “all” you need here. Its not easy, but this is what you need to understand. And if you really need to do it in Grasshopper, then do it manually first to understand what you need to do for automating it.
