A very useful shortcut for the gumball is to click on the arrow and hit Enter or Space to repeat the previous value to translate the object. In RH8, when hitting Space “too fast” nothing happens. I guess RH8 is waiting for the pop-up animation to finish. In RH7, it works as expected.
