I ran across this yesterday while doing a class demo that involves applying a material to the ground plane. I did the same thing last week in German and it was no problem, but this week I’m teaching the class in French and bang… My laptop has a 4K screen as does my co-instructor, we both had the problem. Our students, who all had normal HD screens, did not.
To reproduce this you will need:
- A Windows computer (probably a laptop) with a smallish 4K screen operating at 225-250% display scaling
- Rhino 7 with default interface in English and French (eventually other languages to test)
- An image to use as a material
Then:
Start Rhino with default interface in English and a second one in French
Show the Ground Plane panel (docked or floating, doesn’t matter)
(in French it’s called Plan au Sol)
Already you can see there is a problem:
English:
French:
All the other options have disappeared. And it’s impossible to get them back as far as I have tried (see videos below)
I managed to get something by setting the perspective viewport in Rendered mode, then dragging a material from the material panel onto the ground plane (which is active by default in rendered mode). Going back to the Ground Plane panel I then see this:
English:
French:
If I click in the material area, I get stuff that runs off the screen at the bottom:
So this stuff is more or less unusable…
Here are a couple of videos I made last night (hopefully they will show up correctly):

Interestingly enough this all works fine in English or German, so it may have to do with some French text not fitting in an allotted space which makes everything else collapse…
I have already posted about my custom toolbar problems on a 4K laptop screen (also things getting cut off / display problems). So I am putting in a request here - PLEASE test all the interface stuff on 4K screens with high display scaling (and in all languages)…
