Grasshopper fails- GH_Canvas type initializer error - HRESULT 0x80004005

Hi,

I’m having an issue with Grasshopper failing to load in Rhino 8 on Windows 11.

System info:

  • Rhino 8.29.26063

  • Windows 11 (build 10.0.26200)

  • 64-bit

Error message at startup:

Error occurred loading plug-in: GrasshopperPlugin.rhp An exception occurred in the type initializer for ‘Grasshopper.GUI.Canvas.GH_Canvas’

Windows Event Viewer shows:

.NET Runtime version 4.0.30319.0 - Error initializing the profiler API attach infrastructure. This process will not allow a profiler to attach. HRESULT: 0x80004005. Process ID: 22620. Message ID: [0x2509].

What I have tried so far:

  • Cleared Grasshopper settings folder

  • Disabled all third-party services in msconfig

  • Checked registry for COR_PROFILER variables (none found)

  • Checked system environment variables (none suspicious)

  • Reinstalled Rhino

The .NET profiler error seems to be the root cause but I cannot identify which application is injecting it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi @benoit_courbin,
Sorry to hear this.

You can try the Rhino 8 Reset command.
Pick the factory settings option.
It will return Rhino to the initial installed state.

This mean any customization will be lost, so make sure to backup Toolbar changes, aliases, display modes and any other files you have changed.

If this does not help, let us know.
We will suggest more to try.

Thanks,

Hi,

Thanks for your message.

I’ll try the Rhino 8 Reset command with the factory settings option as suggested.

However, I wanted to mention that the problem seems to appear specifically when I install the Heron plugin. Without it, Rhino works normally.

I’m also experiencing an issue with loading .rhp files when I install get3Dcapture. Do you think this could be related?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Best regards,

Hi @benoit_courbin,
Thanks for the clarification.

Heron is a 3rd party, proprietary plugin developed by Brian Washburn. We do not have access to the source code for debugging so sadly there is nothing that we can do.

You will need to report the issue to him. I believe you report issue on his Food4Rhino page. I do not see any other published form of contact.

Plugin developers have their own support channel so they can work with our developers here to solve any issue.

Sincerely,
Mary Ann Fugier
