GPU power for Rhino?

Hi

it´s me again… …well… i don´t know how to explain…
accidently i got 12x ATI R9…
they are on poor Rigs, bad CPU, not much Ram, just 3x R9 GPU per rig…
Linux is installed…

so… how can i take advantage with Rhino?
i use Vray for rendering. Do you think i yould use the GPUs with Vray RT for RT rendering?
Will the results in a big resolution like 14000x10000 be displayed well? nice sharp and chrisp?
with my old GPUs the RT engine seemed useless until now… but this crazy setup opens new dimensions??? am i right or should i install some DR spawners on them ^^ ?

cheerio!

I dont think you will be able to make that large renderings, i think they have about 3gigs or ram each? thats not enough, it just speeds up whatever fits in the Vram but it has no virtual memory possibilities to adress when the file (due to the resolution in your case) exceeds the 3gigs of ram,

And yes, im jealous,…

I’m afraid you’ll just have to hand these things out the the first couple of people replying on this topic!

Not sure about VRay RT but most GPU render engines need CUDA so ATI cards are no use.

I got a dual ATI HD75xx rig for gaming and Rhino is not using 1% of it. So a triplet will probably be no better.

Not expert on Linux but Vray for Rhino only works for win, at the moment.
Maybe you can get the DRspawner working under wine.
VfR 2 work also for ATI using OpenCl.
If I would you I’ll install a fresh win7 and have lot of fun

  • Linux is fine for the spawner. i already used it some time ago with wine and it worked well.

  • do the distrebuted render nodes support RT render, too?

  • ok, one card has 3 Gigs, one rig has 3 cards. so its 9GB per rig. so so its 36GB in total.

  • if the spawner works, if distrebuted nodes work, ati cards work, too… i can set the rsolution for realtime… it should work, or not?

@HaLo i think you did not use vray RT when its using 1% …

noone here experienced with producing final renderings with GPU?

It doesnt work like that, you should see each card as a seperate pc, its 3gigs each, i have 2 nvidia 760gtx 4gb, doesnt mean i have 8, it means i have 4 and 4,…

Talking about final rendering it depends on which kind of effect you want in your scene. RT doesn’t support all the material effect so could be a problem.
But if you are doing just a normal rendering RT it’s exactly like normal.
Instead of waiting for passes you have to wait for noise refinement
With 3 big ATI card it’s sure better to do RT.

Ps: yes RT works on distribute. The problem could be ethernet delay.

Sell some then get a motherboard with 6 pcie slots.

i do a lot of postproduction. so i guess for my use using the rig should help a lot in saving time…

i rendered 2 Days because of bad settings and material on this image:

after that some postproduction:

e voila… so its usually a groundplane with some normal mapping, some glass with reflection/refrction and puh… very seldom some displacement. but i try to avoid…

Its just the waste of time when you combine some materials that makes me mad and the wish for a faster rendersolution bigger… And just having the rigs for mining and heating is hm… …could be used better.

cool, so i´ll just try it…

That you meant ATI CARD can use in rhino?
Can you teach me ? I got a Firepro video card but people said I cannot use it in rhino rendering.
