Google street view to grasshopper

Hi @reehchris @cfee ,

Thanks to the amazing contributions of Nico Azel @Nicolas_Azel , Heron v0.5.0 now has the ability to import Google 3D Tiles! There are two new components that provide this functionality: G3DTilesAoi and G3DTilesPoi.

G3DTilesAoi uses a boundary and a Level of Detail (akin to zoom level) to download all tiles within a boundary at the given LOD. Be sure to start with a low LOD so you don’t attempt to download thousands of tiles unintentionally.

G3DTilesPoi also uses a boundary and LOD, but focuses the max LOD at the Point(s) of Interest, allowing the detail level of meshes to fall off the farther away the tile is from the given point(s). This can be useful if you want to load a larger boundary area while minimizing the number of tiles. Without actual interaction with Rhino cameras, the component simulates the camera-based loading of tiles in Google Earth by introducing the Constant (K) and the Max Screen Space Error inputs. There is a balance between the two you can tweak, but the default values should give you a good start. Basically, the higher the K value and the lower the max sse, the more tiles will be downloaded.

A coupe of notes:

  • Tiles can take some time to download and import, so please be patient. This is not the async, priority loading of tiles you experience with Google Earth.
  • The import of 3D tiles to Rhino depends on Rhino 8’s ability import GLB files, so Heron v0.5.0 will only work in RH 8+ (and is currently only available for PC–Mac to come).
