Floor Shadows

Hi guys,

What would be the best approach to get shadows similar to Rhino’s Rendered view in the Shapediver viewer? They ground objects so nicely.

Rhino viewport and ShapeDiver viewer use different rendering engines so you won’t get exactly the same but you can achieve similar effect with these steps:

  • switch on the ambient occlusion
  • switch off shadows
  • use only one ambient light in your scene
  • set environment to white in model settings
  • fine tune the material (metalness around 0.1, roughness around 0.9) and use light gray colour instead of white to compensate for over-exposed areas
  • mimic the ground shadows effect with a texture map, learn this and more tricks in the tutorial below
