Hi everyone,
I would like to introduce FlahaETo whic is “Under approval of RhinoFood”, a free Grasshopper plugin for Rhino 8 that helps landscape designers prepare a typical-year irrigation water budget.
The question it is designed to answer is simple:
How much irrigation water does each landscape zone require each month and across a typical year?
FlahaETo uses an EPW climate file and daily FAO-56 Penman-Monteith reference evapotranspiration (ETo), then combines it with planting coefficients, rainfall assumptions, irrigation
efficiency, and irrigated area.
EPW Climate → FAO-56 ETo → Crop Zone / Kc Factor / WUCOLS Zone
→ Irrigation Budget → Charts, Dashboard, and CSV/HTML Report
What it can do
- Read EPW typical meteorological year climate files.
- Calculate daily and monthly FAO-56 ETo.
- Create irrigation budgets for crop or landscape zones.
- Use landscape coefficients: KL = Ks × Kd × Kmc.
- Account for monthly rainfall, rainfall effectiveness, irrigation efficiency, and irrigated area.
- Calculate monthly and annual irrigation volume in m³.
- Compare climate and ETo across two to six EPW locations.
- Create multi-zone project budgets with optional Rhino plot geometry.
- Export single-zone and project results as CSV and HTML reports.
Important limitations
FlahaETo produces a design-stage typical-year budget. It is not intended to replace:
- irrigation controller schedules;
- hydraulic pipe or valve design;
- measured water-consumption analysis; or
- project-specific irrigation engineering review.
WUCOLS-style values are included as editable planning assumptions and should be reviewed for the project location and planting palette.
Thank you for taking a look. I would be very happy to hear your comments and suggestions.
