Filliting. I'll never get a handle on it

It is odd. Sometimes a fillet works on an edge, but then it fails on a mirror of the same edge. Sometimes reducing the radius works, e.g. .5mm to .475, sometimes not. Perhaps I need to change model settings, but I don’t know. Is there a software package out there that would fillet this with ease? Basically, click an edge, give it a radius, and it fillets and self-adjusts the radius as needed for tapers, corners, etc.?

And this. Everything fillets correctly except this edge. A Fillet>ChainEdge leaves one part of the big arc unfilited.

this stumped me. not sure why there’d be non-integers.

there’s way more edges then I thought there’d be. I guess those chamfers split alot of them.

I’ve opened the file, filletedge chainEdge and it worked without problems…

In that model the 0.75 fillet at the base is a problem, you are correct that the 0.5 fillet fails on the little corner…

Are you saying that there are tiny edge sections that I’m not seeing and that is why the fillets are failing? If so, wouldn’t picking ChainEdge select them all?

Was there an order in how you guys filleted? Select individual edges? Selected all edges?

it’s possible. it’s not super easy to realize they’re there unless you have a super duper 3D mouse for navigation.

not necessarily. yes if the tangency is within threshold of the command, depending how you approach it and the geometry correlates.

personally I just select mostly manually and navigate with my 3D mouse like a spaceship.

and I wasn’t 100% sure exactly which edges you really wanted done, I just based it on what I saw in your file.


this one appears to have some naked edges. I would probably have to rebuild it to see if there’s other issues.

Yes! I eventually found those naked edges and realized why it wouldn’t work. I never remember to use the analysis commands. After finding it I did a lot of rebuilding, cutting, splitting, joining and eventually got it all to work.

no problem, yes Rhino is the best CAD it’s like doing surgery and statistical analysis cause it lets you see the truths and fix anything in lots of ways, so design intent really decides and if design is flexible you can do anything :grinning_face: :hot_beverage:
