# Fillet fail, fairly easy case

I don’t get why it’s not possible to have a proper fillet tool in Rhino.

I’m using Rhino WIP and in this case the fillet will fail at 15, succeed at 14.999.

it works here, you might be doing something wrong.

nope, its just reality, and not very uncommon. i also fell into that pit many times. but blaming Rhino when you are obviously doing something wrong is just not very polite either.

and besides all that not even providing the geometry in question is actually considered quite rude additionally. in a simple example that exhibits the same conditions as you have it works without issues.

so either your edge is not exactly 15 but indeed 14.whatnot or you did something wrong, either way you did something wrong, so post the geometry and dont get a hick up here.

posting your file without one having to ask for it will avoid people wondering why they have to ask for it who waist their times rebuilding simple stuff that generally would work. not Rhinos fault by all means.

also to fix your issue you can simply duplicate the lower face boarder and extrude it, fillet will then work properly.

you are certainly not wrong with this fix.

but… to their point, ideally this should work, and we are always glad to see cases like this to give to @menno for diagnosis.

Any improvements in filleting for Rhino is a good thing.

now if that would be valid for everyone involved?

i am here to help people, you are here to get paid and help people i do it for free, i dont have a boss besides some admins that may oppose their authority when they dont like exactly how one reports or addresses something. so i have a bit more freedom. and my responses are not that hard out of order that they would need any rectification.

you can recommend people to be kind that certainly would be alright, but flagging posts as an admin that automatically will get my post hidden and deleted after some time is not fine.

I see this as further confirmation that Rhino doesn’t move edges automatically. This is also an issue with verts, trimmings, extensions, etc.

I’m not sure how parasolid would be any better, while it might succeed in some cases, even parasolid will struggle with some stuff.

You can only smudge so far, so ‘blending’ might work better, but Rhino is still awesome the way it is.

I’m not sure there’ll ever be a way around this, maybe in some other medium like mesh, subd, bridge or something idk.

Basic parametrics would be sweet 🥹

i am all about creating atmospheres which sometimes also includes.., just like you do but without the same tools, ..addressing stuff that might not apply to everyones opinion or choices. just that i probably would not _remove_ their posts for it

That’s not a fix. That’s a workaround.

To be perfectly clear Rhino should even be able to **build**  **this** fillet:

In my opinion it is completely unacceptable to have to manually construct such basic fillets.

which it does. again if you did something strange and it does not work its not always _other’s_ fault. if i build the exact same situation from scratch it works. i am not sure how else to convey that. just because you have encountered some strange situation in which it does not work does not make fillet an _improper_ tool.

This situation will probably not change in the near future for FilletEdge. You can however fillet that corner with FilletSrf, since it doesn’t rely on edges.

I just downloaded WIP, created part. Filleted no issue.

It also did not fail in V8. Which it usually does a lot for me. I have gotten pretty used to typing in X.9999 a lot.
