Hello, I imported a file from sketch fab that I was going to use for a laser cutting object. It was a GLTF file with over 3.1m polygons, by the time I saved it on the file it was already 248 megabytes. I did do some reduce mesh and it helped considerably but when went ahead to do the make2d of the sides I needed, it would increase the file size up to 1151 megabytes. Even meticulously trying to delete the unnecessary curves and deleting the 3D model would barely help. Any help would be appreciated and thanks you very much
Hi Mario -
Is that a 2D operation? Couldn’t you just make a section through the mesh object?
It’s difficult to help without more specifics…
-wim
The command I used was _Make2D and used it on the different sides of the model (eg top, right, front), my apologies since I’m not very experienced with the program
It seems I have found the problem, I did the audit3dmfile and it seems there’s a bunch of objects with plug-in data items, that seems to be what it’s bloating it, now how I get rid of them is another thing since I can’t see where they are
You can get rid of them all by using SaveAs and unchecking “Save plug-in data”. Note this will purge data from ALL plugins. There is no granularity.
It seemed to get rid of the plug-ins but only that, and only reduced by 2 megabytes, did a new audit and those objects are still there
Hi @mario_sanchez,
Any chance we can look at the file? Feel free to send me a link via PM.
Thanks,
– Dale
Hi Mario,
You are using Make 2D a 3.1 million poly mesh to get a 2D pattern for cutting?
There is no way this is going to end up with a usable result for your purpose.
If you cannot post the file, can you give us a few images of what you are trying to do so someone might suggest a better process?
Are you slicing a 3D object to create many 2D layers or is the object a complex extruded shape (2D with thickness)?
