Feature request: improved tables (mainly useful AREA takeoffs)

Hi there,

Currently the tables feature (dynamic etc) is very promising, but it doesnt feel mature / fully functional yet..

Some ideas/feature request for upcoming developement:

  • Improve area takeoffs : a standard GFA/NLA table in the template, with a GFA(built) spaces and NLA(usable) space type (now there is the usable/built property in a space but it doesnt seem to do anything and I cannot filter by it in the tables..) that gets automatically added
  • support for zones ! (and ifcZone !!), to be able to group spaces into ‘departments’ or zones.
  • When grouping elements in a table, we really need the options to show them as a grouped ‘dropdown’, with an arrow to expand/collapse, so it is clear which elements are in that grouped section, and SUBTOTALS of each group. this would be ESSENTIAL for spaces, zones and thus useful area takeoffs
  • Also - as often it is still faster often to draw NLA / GFA curves, it would be great if these curves (filterable per certain layer/floor), could have automatic area calculations, and could be used as such in these tables
  • Another (separate) feature request for tables ; to list blocks (already there) but then organizable by block-type, now you can just list all blocks but not organize them per block type so it is not actually useful. it could become a kind of VA block manager which would be MUCH more powerful than the rhino one, since it would be dynamic, two-way, and have efficient groupings and quantity takeoffs etc. This block-table should also be one of the default ones in the template as im sure it would prove useful for many people.

It would be amazing if the development team of VA could have a look at these and see if these could be achievable to implement. I think effective, pragmatically useful tables would be one of the most impactful improvements of VA, for a true ‘BIMlight’ workflow.

Thanks!

Hi @florisd, thank you for your comments and suggestions:

Currently the Build area of spaces doesn’t work. Only the usable. You can add the Gross floor area to a space as a custom parameter, which can be listed in tables. But it requires a manual calculation of it.

I add your vote for this feature.

I add your vote for this feature too.

We have added the option to list curves with the native “Length” and “Area” properties in the upcoming 3.10 update. This week we will publish a Release Candidate version of it.

What types of blocks do you mean?
