ctrl+shift and lasso select and then extract will split that into its own part.

Thank you @theoutside for explaining this. I believe it should be easier and more intuitive though. As in any other program.

fwiw there is a split at edge loop too… not what you need here, but good to know if you did not.

Another tool to use in that case is Explode, which will separate all the disjoint parts of the SubD into individual SubD objects (one SubD per connected component).
