Hi CrossGems Team,
First of all, thank you for developing such a powerful parametric engine. As a professional CAD designer working on high-end custom jewelry, CrossGems has significantly improved my workflow. However, I am writing to request a crucial feature regarding Custom Cut Gems.
[The Problem] Currently, dealing with custom fancy cuts (e.g., Shield, Kite, Hexagon) is a major pain point. If I import a custom polysurface gem, the CrossGems engine does not recognize it as a native parametric gem.
I tried using the Profile Gem tool by extracting the girdle curve. While this works decently for creating basic underbezels, it completely fails when it comes to advanced settings like Prongs, Heads, or Micro Clusters. Because the extruded Profile Gem lacks crucial metadata (like Table percentage, Crown angle, and Facets), the prongs and cutters cannot calculate the proper placement and depth.
[Feature Request] Please consider adding an “Advanced Custom Gem Builder” or a “Redefine Gem” feature in the next update.
We need a tool where a user can import an arbitrary 3D polysurface gem and manually map the metadata to it (e.g., clicking to define the Table face, Girdle edge, and Culet point). Once mapped, the CrossGems engine should treat this imported polysurface exactly like a native parametric gem, allowing all dynamic settings (prongs, cutters, bezels) to interact with it flawlessly.
This feature is absolutely essential for high-end jewelry designers who constantly work with non-standard, fancy-cut stones. It would be a massive game-changer for the software.
Looking forward to your thoughts on this!
Best regards,
