FastenWorks - Hardware Generator

Could you create a tutorial video on the plugin for YouTube? …Thank you, that would be great.

@tmason80 You should have a choice imperial and metric on most screws and bolts. When you switch the thread standard, that should reflect the sizes offered for that bolt, screw or other. Depending the documents units, that gives you metric and imperial units for the total length and shank length. Is there a particular fastener that your asking about that is not giving you what you need? Where in the menu are you having to do math for the dimensions? Maybe your document units are units metric? Without seeing it, I am having a hard time understanding what you’re experiencing? I should be straightforward on the units. You should not have to do math to get the part you want. Keep me updated.

I will for sure do a tutorial or video when things slow down. It’s on my list of thing to do.

I tested a few things and it works nicelly, thanks for the plugin, it feels like a espiritual sucessor to BoltGen but with improved features.

Great work, and thanks for your creation. I’ve been downloading a lot of fastners from McMaster-Carr and GrabCAD lately. This will be a great help. What has been most time consuming for me is creating fastner hole objects to boolean difference from my models to accomodate the screws. I’ve made a few fastner subtraction models that I use regularly. Could a plugin like this create objects for those also? Maybe with loose, tight, and threaded options? Of course in my ignorance, I could be missing a lot on how this is done.

You can create internal threads right now with the plugin, but i’m reworking the hole creation part of it right now. With next update I have overhauled the hole creation part to include different types of holes that may be needed. Look for the next update to see if what I have done fits your needs more. I have been getting some great feedback and suggestions. I have been prioritizing them and trying to put them in the next update. Glad you like the plug-in and find out of some use.

Fastenworks 1.3.6 Update. (Pretty big update.)

I’ve added some new features and changed some things around that addressed some requests and bug fixes. I have done my best to fully test out each new feature. Please report any bug and I will put them on the list. Hope you all find these improvements helpful.

  1. Sticky settings. The values you set, stick if you access it again. I have included a default button that individually resets fastener to default settings. One the main menu. I have included global reset of defaults for everything at once.
  2. Reworked the Hole and internal threads. I call it “Tap and Bore”. Inside you will find 3 sections
  • New Tapped Hole: Creating tapped hole. ( Just like the old internal threads)
  • Tap Existing Hole: Puts threads in an existing hole. (up to 1.5 in/38.1mm)
  • Hole for existing Bolt: Makes threads inserted into solid without a hole created by Fastenworks (Can multiselect bolts) Warning: the boolean might take a bit with a lot of bolts.
  1. BOM counts fasteners that are arrayed and duplicated.
  2. Added a Pilot hole option, Which can be tapped later with Tap and Bore option.
  3. Bug fixes on schematic view of countersinks fasteners.
  4. Changed the schematic view` to include the selected drive.
  5. Other random bugs and UI fixes.

very cool - thank you for your work and effort! A better pendant to BoltGen was/is certainly needed!
