Exporting Layers from Illustrator

Hi - Is there a way of exporting layers from Illustrator to Rhino? I think it works the other way round, but keeping layers when moving from Illustrator to Rhino?

Illy files will have objects all come in on the same layer , as you’ve no doubt discovered.

However exporting from Illustrator as DXF will maintain layers.
