Exporting Issue

The issue I’m about to describe happens for me on both Rhino 6 (Version 6 (6.22.20028.13212, 2020-01-28) and Rhino 7 WIP for Mac.
I re-downloaded Rhino 5 and this problem does not occur.
I’m running Catalina 10.15.2.

Whenever I try and export a file (also happens with export selected and export with origin) a prompt to as to where to save and what file format never comes up. The attached screenshot is as far as it gets. Therefore, the export function has stopped working all together for me and I have to close and re-open rhino to get it to start functioning again. I can save a file no problem, just cannot export.
I’ve also tried meshes, nurbs, lines - the issue happens with all geometries.
I’ve also uninstalled and reinstalled rhino and the issue persists.

Hello,

I have the same issue. Rhino 6 for Mac, Catalina OS.
This problem happens with command ExportAll and ExportSelected as well. Would appreciate any help or information regarding the problem.

Artem

@dan Have you heard of this happening more widely? Thanks

I have not heard of this one, no. @wim Can you please investigate this? (I’ll be out for a week so I won’t be able to get to this one).

Thanks Dan. @wim Any ideas about this one?

Hi - sorry about the delay on this one. I had to get some new hardware to get to test this…

Running

  • macOS Catalina 10.15.3
  • Rhino 6.22.20028.13212

Starting a new file from the factory-default Small Objects - Millimeters template
Making a simple Box
Selecting that box and then running Export

On my system, the dialog box with “Save As:” gets correctly shown.

Is the procedure that I described above something that would trigger the error on your system?
Have you tried resetting all preferences to factory-defaults?
-wim

Hi Wim,

Thanks for looking into my problem. To answer your questions:

  • Yes that is the procedure where the error occurs.
  • Yes I have tried resetting all preferences.

I just un-installed and re-installed rhino 6 again and the problem still persists:

But I do not get the issue with rhino 5:

-Arianna

I am having the exact same issue. Whenever I try to export, it just hangs and I never get the dialog box. Once that happens I can’t run any more commands, no boxes come up, but otherwise the interface still responds.

@brandon3, @artem, @sebastian.misiurek, can you please run the Rhino SystemInfo command and copy-paste the result in an answer here? Perhaps we can find a common denominator for those systems and look around and see if we have a similar machine somewhere.
Thanks,
-wim

Here is mine. It’s worht noting this is a brand new install. I just started using it under an evaluation license. unfortunately since I’m interested in Rhino to export designs to a laser cutter and 3d printer, it’s not off to great start :/.
I had to restart Rhino to run systeminfo, as once the export hangs, no commands run.

And here is mine. I’m using 6.18 version of Rhino instead of the latest 6.22 because in 6.22 I can’t open second Rhino window - the program crashes. But I guess that’s the topic for another thread…

Hello @wim , any updates on this issue?

Hi @artem - no updates so far on this one, I’m afraid.
The only similarity I see between those who have posted their SystemInfo here is that you all are running Rhino on an MBP 15,x. I filed RH-56926 and put that on the list of a developer who has such machine and I hope that this issue can be reproduced.

FYI installed the latest update. Still no luck. As soon as I try to do an export, the command window locks up. This is really frustrating. The major thing I need rhino to do it can’t. I spent a lot of time working on this design and I can’t get it out of the program. Is there really nothing we can do to help troubleshooting besides collecting systeminfo?

Hi - this issue wasn’t reproducible on a similar system of a developer. @dan do you have ideas of what could be tried to troubleshoot this?
-wim

No, not at the moment. I’ve been seeing more of these though. It’s frustrating that we cannot reproduce this.

A wild-guess is that this could be a permissions issue of some kind.

To those of you experiencing this bug, what happens when you give Rhino “Full Disk Access”?

To do this:

  1. Quit Rhino.
  2. Launch System Preferences and navigate to Security & Privacy > Privacy (tab) > Full Disk Access.
  3. Click the padock and authenticate.
  4. Click the + button and Rhinoceros.app to the list.
  5. Launch Rhino.

Does the problem persist?

Perhaps you’re already aware of the following: As an emergency (understandably unpalatable ongoing) way to possibly get down the road on the existing project, you could open the Rhino file in an app that reads .3dm files directly, such as Fusion 360, Rhino Win, MOI, Creo, if you have access to any of those, and then export from there…(hopefully without any errors).

Sadly yes, the problem still persists. Really thought this could be the solution :frowning:

Yeah, last night I created a VM and installed the Windows version on there. Meant I had to get another eval key using a different email address, so it’s only a temporary solution. Since you haven’t been able to reproduce it in house yet, I’m happy to do a screenshare or something so you can gather more data.
