If I already have a table drawn up in Rhino that’s correct for size and layout but I want to populate it with text data in Excel, is there any way to do that and round trip it back to Rhino?
Is there any way to control line thicknesses for the table?
Sorry no there is not a way to “Round Trip” it back to Rhino. That would be a whole new plugin to get that to happen. That would be a Workflow of Rhino to Excel and then back to Rhino.
I have designed ExcelWorks to specifically copy the exact formatting from your Excel tables and recreate that in Rhino. To get your table in Rhino build your table in Excel first and format it there to how you want it to be displayed ( e.g data, fonts styles, font size, merged cells, cell borders - both think and thin, color fills etc…) then use ExcelWorks to add that data to your Rhino workspace / drawings. ExcelWorks makes a link between Rhino and the Excel range you selected. To change the data in your rhino tables simply change the data in the Excel spreadsheet and click the Update button in ExcelWorks and the table will get updated with your changes.
Regarding the line thicknesses, Currently ExcelWorks makes the standard cell borders 0.35mm wide and the borders set to think border in Excel to 0.7mm wide.
You can view the lineweights if you set the rhino “printdisplay” state on on (see attached screenshot)
I could build a seperate setting that allows users to control the table border line widths. It wouldnt be a difficult thing to implement if the current default widths dont work for users.
