Error with Hatch Representation

I think VA development team are already aware of this issue.
This is not a bug, but should be fixed in the near future.
Hatch can not but be represented wrong with current hatch option by VA

  1. Hatch angle is not matched with that of walls. Ange is always calculated with X axis.
  2. Hatch base point is not rearranged with walls. It’s always 0,0,0.

For these reasons, I usually don’t use hatch. I hope these errors will be fixed soon.
Thanks.

Hi @archist97, yes this feature has been requested already several times.

How would you apply these two hatches of your example on a curved wall?

Hi.
I have no idea how to apply hatch to such a curved wall in VA .
However, we applied hatch to the straight angled wall correctly through Grasshopper.
It’s impossible to apply hatch to even straight wall correctly with VA at the moment. That’s problem.
Thanks.

Every hatch that has some kind of directionality in its pattern is problematic when looking for ideal solutions, especially considering hatches on curved walls. Having something like Grasshopper Style Hatches could be very cool but there are a couple of problems:

  • they wouldn’t be compatible with other software
  • probably sometimes very performance heavy
  • there are some edge cases to solve, that can be solved maybe even with kangaroo relaxation - but this might be a huge overkill, and even more performance heavy

Saying all that, they might be very beautiful indeed.

Maybe we can have some solution to straight walls before we deal with curved walls. Sometimes there is not a single curved wall in the project.

edge cases

Yes. Straight wall first. Many users have requested this feature, but it has not been implemented very long time. Probably for almost 5 years.
