Emulators and display issues

Continuing the discussion from No shadows on MacBook PRO retina with IRIS GPU:

Emulators like VM emulate the graphics card hardware rather than using it directly like Windows can in a bootcamped partition on a Mac. You can see this in the hardware info in the OpenGL page of Rhino’s options. VM always says Gallium which I bet is not your actual GPU in the machine. So emulators are a special case and although fancy display stuff and the best display speeds won’t be possible, you can still model. Every now and then I burn a day trying all the emulator options I can find with Rhino to see if anything is better, at the moment they can work but are not the fastest nor do they use the display features of Rhino. You’ll see little glitches and also big ones like no shadows in Rendered mode.
