Elliptical Gradient

Would anyone else find an elliptical gradient as a useful addition to the existing radial and linear gradient hatches? Pic shows what I’m after:

My laser cutter can engrave in 3D based upon a grayscale image, but as it stands I cannot get the gradient to follow the curve of the ellipse using linear/radial. Perhaps there’s another way?

Hello- if it is an actual ellipse you need, you can apply a linear gradient texture to a surface made from a revolved line, then scale the surface in one axis-

Hello- presumably you only need to set this up once - save to a file and then import and move/copy or copy/paste, the object when needed.
