Elastic Beam Bending

Hi everyone,

I came across this interesting code/definition of elasting bending on a beam and wondered if there is a way of applying this to a non planar curve? Would this be easier to do in Kangaroo? Cheers, K.

Hi Kieran,

Yes - finding non-planar elastica curves is quite easy in Kangaroo.
I believe the approach in that old forum post is specific to the planar case.

Here’s a simple setup that takes a curve, fixes 2 points at either end to keep the tangent direction, and relaxes to find the elastica:
