Edge Softening: 0.003 m displays as 0.00 — why?

When I use Edge Softening on a box (a metal kitchen block) and enter 0.003 m (3 mm), the field immediately shows 0.00. Why does it not display 0.003?

In Document Properties → Units my settings are:
– Model units: Meters
– Absolute tolerance something like: 0.0001
– Distance display: Decimal, Display precision: 0.0001
