I think I finally figured out how to make a somewhat realistic hanging draped hose.Took some work to get to the geometry shown in the pictures.
The model is of a Fowler Water Tank, a 300 gallon tank that could be towed behind a steam traction tractor. I made it to go with an Allchin steam tractor model that I am putting together in Solidworks.
I used a fairly simple work flow. I started out gathering up all of the geometry that would constrain the shape of the hose. Then I added four cross sections that defined the diameter of the hose as it wound around itself, the blue circles in the pictures.
Each section used two or three circles to enable me to create the initial spline loops and to keep from interfering with the fixed geometry, the red curve.
Finally I used the Solid+Pipe function with History enabled to create the hose geometry.
The time consuming part of this was moving the splines control points around around to remove any self intersecting sections.
This gives me hope for a much more difficult water hose I need for my Allchin steam tractor.
