why does a drag selection box fail to select these lines the result of a project to a mesh, when they are all the same ?
sometimes nothing happens at all, sometimes 1, this time 3.
They are the result of projecting the lines in the attached file to the mesh on layer No Rulers V2, in the set sent to McNeel and subject of ongoing issues.
Hi, @jeremy5
right file, those are the lines I projected. The object onto which they were projected is in the BIG file sent to McNeel.
I was suggesting they copy paste those lines into it and project it and then try drag selection on the results.
I give my permission for that file to be made available to Jeremy. I can see me referring to it a few times as I try to get V8 in use !
@Gijs
I am not understanding select all around the original object, as its covered in projections and original drawn curves and surfaces, so I end up with everything. Surely to select a small item one drags over it as shown ?
I do that 'drag around the entire item, going well beyond it and get this
Out of 4 goes I got this twice, its missing a few, one with all of that set of lines, and the other can’t recall now !
Still not right !
but I dont want everything.
should I instead turn off clippingPlane ?
how does one disable it, as turning off the layer its on doesnt do anything.
Cheers
Steve
P.S. I like the fact that one can have more than one clipping plane and in properties of each one when selected ticks for which views operate that plane.
We’ve discussed that before. Named views are a quick way of doing that.
You can also, with the clipped perspective view active, run NewFloatingViewport to create a new viewport that is not clipped.

Hi,
I am in perspective view filling screen, I run newFloatingViewport and get a floating viewport and wait as nothing appears, then when it does its black with some yellow bits, I try to zoom in and its so slow , as to be unworkable.
I wish drag select worked with clipping planes on.
update…having turned off the clipping plane i see those lines are part of something longer, so its dangerous to select them as they might lead to a part that is needed !
so turn off clipping planes then select items, else get a shock !
I will try and do method 1 making named views.
In perspective view where I have more than one clipping plane active, I run NamedViews and call it CP_side1
I return to the normal perspective and delete the two ClippingPlanes, the entire object mesh appears,
I then go view and select CP_side1 and it appears , but no clipping planes exist, the entire object is visible.
so how does one make a view clone of clipping planes, then get rid of them in normal views so to be able to drag select items ?
(seems wrong to have to do this just to be able to drag select something)
so then google toggle clipping plane and get this
To toggle clipping planes on and off in Rhino, you can either select the clipping plane object and adjust the “Views Clipped” options in the Properties panel, or use the ClippingPlane command with the Clip option.
so I do the second one type ClippingPlane and hit enter
and get this, but see no CLIP option.
What I mean is you have to select around the entire object, in this case, the entire curve you want to select. The fact that is it clipped doesn’t change that.
Hi Steve -
Google provides answers based on your search history and browsing habits. I have no idea what information appears on your screen when you hit that link. Please just provide the page where you found the information about a “clip” option for the ClippingPlane command.

Hi,
the page google found was this and copy paste of the address bar was what I posted.
I dont know another way of providing an address for a page I am on except doing that.
