you should also be able to flag the message just the same as in the open forum.

nice to know, but just for maximum 4 months, and no real SPAM protection or user ban.

Is the option to flag a PM not available to you? This is from one of the PM’s sent to me:

a ban can be enforced by an admin. once flagged, somebody like @stevebaer will check through if i am correct and will evaluate if the user has to be banned.

I didn’t know that I can flag as SPAM. This should be the solution.
