Direction of flattened surfaces

I’m having a hard time understanding my unrolled, squished or smashed surface directions if the object is somewhat square (for example).

Is there logic to “just know” which is the upper right, lower left of a unrolled vertical surface? I know there are options to label the sides, but outside these ABCD side labels, is there dependable logic that it follows? To me it seems that the flattened surface directions is almost random.

Right now I just add a upper-right corner tick line and I grab the tick curve when I use a flatten command.

I think you just need to turn on the numbering labels which will assign numbers to the corners on both.

Thanks Joseph. That’s what I meant above (ABCD/1234) haha. I was just wondering if there’s logic on how the panels are flattened down.
