Dimension association with object

Hello,

Sometimes when I make a dimension of a 3d object dimension is associated with the object, and sometimes it is not. Does anybody know why?

Thanks!

Igor

Hi Igor -

When creating the dimension, you need to make sure to snap to a feature on the object and not to, e.g., a different annotation or so. If you have a simple 3dm file where the dimension is not associated with an object and you expected that it was, please post that file here.

Thanks! I noticed that when I use “object” sub-options in the dimension command, it works. However, if I use only Snap (e.g., endpoint), it sometimes works and sometimes does not.

Hi Igor -

Again…

Hi Igor -

What am I looking at in this file?
When I move or scale the box, the dimension updates as expected…

Hi Igor -
Thanks.
The object in your file is an extrusion object. When you sub-object modify that, it is turned into a polysurface. This process currently breaks history for the annotation.
Mikko has fixed this just now and that should become available in a public service release candidate of Rhino 8.24 next week.
→ RH-89215 History replay of dimensions when extrusion turns into brep
Seeing that you are on 8.22, the stable version of 8.24 should be available in 5 weeks from now. For the time being, you can turn extrusion objects into polysurfaces before dimensioning them.

Thanks, Wim!

RH-89215 is fixed in Rhino 8 Service Release 24
