Dialing in orientation and spacing of a brep along a 3d surface

See the attached file. The end goal of this script is to have bricks placed along a mobius strip with accurate proportions (I think I’ve accomplished that already in the file) and standard mortar joint thickness spacing (3/8” - haven’t tackled this yet).

My current questions are as such:

  • How do I get the brick breps to orient along mobius surface?

  • How do I get all the brick breps to space 3/8” apart from one another?

  • How do i get a running bond between brick rows?

  • How will I dial in the breps so there aren’t hits between them?

See attached. I made some progress in terms of orienting the breps along the surface of the mobius strip.

You’re not hoping for bricks of the same size, or are you? Do you want a brick “pattern” or rigid orthogonal bricks?

Maybe see here. Also, that is not a Mobius band:

The band needs to twist an odd number of times.

They should be bricks of the same size, so 7 5/8" L x 3 5/8" W x 2 1/4" H. The base brep I made in the file conforms to those dimensions.

I envision the overall mobius strip width being how one dials in the number of bricks. You also have further play with the 3/8” mortar joint spacing. Joints can be a little tighter or larger as needed.

But the standard brick unit should be a constant that doesn’t vary. All other conditions can vary.

This is not a Mobius Strip !

Thanks for the lesson Laurent, let me know what a better descriptor is and I’ll us that moving forward.

Here is a way, not perfect but I am quite sure there is no perfect spacing for bricks as if the number is not the same on a ring, there is a place where 2 bricks are quite aligned.

Also a simplified definition for the brick. I must have done a centered brick in order to have some better alignment

This could also be done with the paneling tools, I think.

Thank you for your help with this!
