Designing an inlay using laser cutting

When designing an inlay, is there a standard way to account for the kerf of a laser? I assume it varies from place to place.

If you can measure the kerf of your laser that would be a start. cut a perfect square and use a micrometer. Not a Dial or digital Caliper. Measure from the very top and the very bottom. Then just move your part out the difference and sand the rest to the right angle. or you could install the inlay upside down so the wider part is at the top of the inlay and the smaller more burnt area is on the bottom? If that makes sense.

I think you’re talking about Maelstorm
