I want to use Rhino 8 to determine the miter angle and the blade tilt angle
needed to produce compound miter joints for picture frames that are inclined
at 20 degrees from the wall surface. A first test of my design method uses
flat boards that are 3/4" thick x 2 1/2" wide x 22" long. Attached is a 3dm
file showing two adjacent frame pieces intersecting in a right angle, and a
plane I would like to use as a cutting plane to make a compound miter joint.
I have been unable to get the plane to work as a cutting plane, and I have
also been unable to get the split and trim commands to work. Please try to get
the plane to function as a cutting plane so that you get the compound miter
joint I want. If you are successful, please send me a link to instructions
that describe what I should have done.
Sir:
I want to use Rhino 8 to determine the miter angle and the blade tilt angle
needed to produce compound miter joints for picture frames that are inclined
at 20 degrees from the wall surface. A first test of my design method uses

joint I want. If you are successful, please send me a link to instructions

The attached file shows one proposed compound miter joint, but if one clicks on either board, it is apparent that no cutting surface is present.
In the top view, draw a line where you want the join, select the line and use the _WireCut command. Select both the planks and follow the instructions to cut all the way through. Select the waste pieces and delete.
ps. Your cutting plane is a curve, not a plane, which is why you didn’t get a reaction. But that is moot as using a plane will leave you openings in the planks where they are cut. _WireCut leaves solid pieces.
