We just published a fast way to run Rhino.Compute in production: the Rhino.Compute AWS Marketplace product.
It is a preconfigured Amazon Machine Image that you launch through a CloudFormation template. When the instance boots, Rhino.Compute is already installed, licensed, and serving requests, with no bootstrap script to run, no IIS setup, and no license server to configure.
Highlights:
- Metered, pay as you go. You pay for the software by the vCPU-hour (currently $0.10 per vCPU-hour, so about $0.40/hour on the t3.xlarge it launches), billed through your regular AWS bill on top of the normal EC2 cost. Stop the instance and the software charge stops with it. There is no separate invoice from McNeel.
- Runs in your own account. It launches into your AWS account and VPC, and you scope network access to the clients that should reach it.
- Quick to a first request. Subscribe, launch the template, and hit the version endpoint. The guide walks through everything, including how to generate the Marketplace Billing token the instance needs.
