Hello everyone,
Rhino gives us 3 options (cpu, cuda or optix) for the render device and I would like to know which one is better for small objects with high reflection, Cuda or Optix.
There was an interaction about this in Dec/2020 with an input from a community member, (Nathan ‘jesterKing’ Letwory), which was helpful in choosing which one but since than technology changed a lot.
Any new input would be much appreciated.
All the best,
It is still pretty much the same, CUDA or OptiX on an NVidia GPU. I’d get the one with most compute cores and most memory that your budget can cover.
In Rhino 8.4 (and particularly 8.5 when it becomes available, next week as service release candidate, next month second Tuesday as service release) there have been a couple of improvements.
If you can get your hands on two Nvidia GPUs, preferrably the same model, then from Rhino 8.5 onwards you’ll be able to use them both at the same time.
That is pretty much the extent of it. In essence all the same tips still hold as back then.
In a future Rhino 8 release I might add the capability of adaptive sampling, which may cut down on rendering times quite a bit.
