Create surface and Zoom

Hello,
I have two questions.

  1. Is it possible to create a surface with more than 4 vertices in Rhino?
  2. I often have the problem that when I use the Zoom to Fit command, the origin is always displayed even though the objects are not located at the origin, and therefore my objects are only visible very small. Can this be adjusted?
    Thank you for your help.
    Best regards,
    Michael
  1. Typically an untrimmed surface has 4 edges. A surface with less or more than 4 corners is a trimmed surface.

Yes, ok. But is it possible to create a surface from 6 corner points? @martinsiegrist

A trimmed surface can have 6 corners but you’ll have to create a polyline first.

Hi Michael / Christian -

Please post a 3dm file in which that behavior can be observed.

Six curves. Six points. Trimmed surface like @martinsiegrist mentioned. Left, the original surface. Right, the untrimmed surface (with trim objects kept on).

This can happen when there is an unnoticed object, perhaps as small as a point, far from the objects you are aware of. It has happened to me. To find that object I select and hide the objects I’m aware of. Then Zoom with Extents option. You may see the object. If not SelAll and look at the list of objects selected. You may recognize the object or objects. If not do a window searches around the viewport until you find the object or objects. Delete, hide, turn off layer, etc.
