Create dims without needing shift tab to go horizontal each time?

Hi,
V5
Can one create a linear horizontal (or vertical) dim without needing to go shift, get it hrz then tab to keep it hrz than drag and click end, for each dim.
fed up when doping many one after the other of them wandering about until one does this.
wish to hit enter, (for repeat the command) click drag click …done !

Cheers

Hi, V5 throws up error for video.
that aside, says pick first point pick second point.

I am picking first point , then entering the dim width I need . hitting enter.
so how does that work here ?

as is there a command to run to force hrz, I am not seeing how reading the text for horizontal gets me a hrz line ?
its why I have to use shift then tab each time.

I am clearly missing something here.

Are you drawing dimension lines and then fitting the drawing elements to them? The intention is to draw the elements to size and then hang the dims off them, easy peasy. I’ve no idea how you’d make it work the other way round.

Yes, I have no idea what you are doing. The command Dim allows you to draw either a horizontal or a vertical dimension depending on how you click the points and move the mouse. And it has been that way since forever…

Hi,
This particular task , I have station lines vertical, for an aircraft, and I am checking with recently discovered official distances between them, how good my drawing was.
so I select linear dimension command,
click at left on a station line, enter the official distance e.g. 500mm then /48 then hit enter, than its wandering around, so to get the right hand end to go horizontal, I hold shift then tab, then I can get it hrz. the vertical placement is then done my moving the mouse, click and done.
If I am wanting to place a dimension between two existing lines, to measure a distance, I would click the start point, then use shift and tab and then drag what is a stretchy dim that can only go hrz and click the second location, then set its vertical position using mouse.

I always use shift then tab to set the direction.

No need to place a dimension to measure a distance - use the Distance command and read the result on the command line.

not if I want the dimension visible for all to see any time thereafter.
